Some time ago my lamp shade cracked at the top (the part which was glued to the frame cracked) so I had to take it off and consider eather getting a new one, or perhaps try to fix the old one. Since my finacial situation isn't so great at the moment and I just couldn't afford a new lamp, I decided to give a makeover to my old one and now you can see how it turned out!
It might seem like an easy job, and it actually is, but the whole process wasn't going as I planned. I didn't have all the tools which would be useful to have so I had to manage myself. It didn't turned out so perfect, but I'm satisfied with my first try. Now I have to give a makeover to my other lamp shade too (at the moment I have 2 different lamps in my bedroom :D ).
Here's a *before* look:
And here's how it looks after my makeover:
Follow me after the cut to see how to give your lamp shade a makeover! :)
1.) The 1st step is to remove the old fabric and to get a blank lamp shade. Choose a fabric you like and be sure to iron it before you cut it out!
2.) Lay on the fabric your lamp shade and plot at least 1 cm from the lamp shade because the excess fabric is there so you could cover the edge of your lamp shade.
3.) Now you have to use your fabric glue or hot glue or any other glue which you think will work for this (I used hot glue because I didn't have anything else) and carfully glue up 1cm edge of your fabric to the inner edge of your lamp shade. It will take some time, but be patient. Mine didn't turned out so neat because I cut out more than 1cm but I'll be more precise with my other lamp shade.
4.) Now, you have to glue your lamp shade to its frame and I used black cotton ribbon for that. At the same time I got a nice black edge and I managed to glue it to the frame.
So, what do you think? Do you like it? Will try it yourself? :)
